2666 / Roberto Bolaño To adapt this novel for the stage, I will keep the five-part book structure. Bolaño tries as much as possible to compartmentalize his stories, he also leaves the reader the possibility to establish a link between them. This possibility will be sometimes activated, and sometimes not. The show that will result from this adaptation will last eight or nine hours. I want it to impact the spectator as much as the reader : something huge, impressive, endless, kicky, and sometimes rough. I want to think the show as a complete and total experience, a crossing during which both actors and spectators are involved, while trying to keep the text's power and complexity. Thirteen performers will be on stage, and they will in turns be musicians, actors, narators - when necessary - characters, as we always do. I want to gather all the tools needed to succeed in this great theatrical task - stage direction, lighting, sound and video design. Like in Atomised, I am sure this novel and its language can have a huge powerful impact on stage. I am sure we will be able to say what Bolaño writes in his first novel, Amulet : "... a cemetery in the year 2666, a forgotten cemetery under the eyelid of a corpse or an unborn child, bathed in the dispassionate fluids of an eye that tried so hard to forget one particular thing that it ended up forgetting everything else."
