There is no doubt that Michel Houellebecq is one of the greatest writers living in the world today. He is one of the only French authors whose writings, served by such a stunning poetic strength, are dedicated to the decryption of Western society in its deepest contradictions. Interestingly, it is the first time that one of his novels has been adapted for the stage in France. However, it has been several years now since Dutch and German directors tried to stage his writings. More than a potential fear to take over Houellebecq's subversive themes, I think most French theater people have never read his novels. They stick to Houellebecq's reputation of backward-looking, islamophobic writer, keen on Thai prostitution, without realizing that he makes us the envy of the world. I do not wish to fix this injustice. Michel Houellebecq does not need us for that.
